Golden Hans

Tonight, some friends invited me to Golden Hans, a buffet-style restaurant. I must say, I don’t think the buffet suits China as it seems to bring out some of the worst traits of the people here: competitiveness over trivial things, failure to wait in orderly lines, and hoarding.

What I mean is if a new, tasty-looking dish comes out, people will flock to it and try to push through the crowd of people circling it. Then once they get to it they will create a fat mountain of food on their plate. They probably won’t/can’t eat it all so it’s kind of like a big “insult you” to everyone else who wants some. After several people get to it, the pan is already empty, and those few who waited patiently are left disappointed. Patience ain’t worth a darn here. It’s all about pushing through and grabbing what you want.
