China TV

You may have heard that Japanese TV is super crazy, colorful, and awesome. Well, that’s Japanese TV, and Chinese TV is nothing like it.

Here are the types of programs we get on Chinese TV: boring talk shows, low-budget kung-fu dramas, overacted melodramas, government-controlled news, Idol knockoffs and similar spinoffs, and foreign programs (mainly Korean soap operas) dubbed into Chinese. I’m sure there are other programs that are unique an innovative (finding new ways to bore people), but that covers most types. No game shows with insane hosts that physically harm the contestants. No super-violent animation. None of the stuff associated with crazy Japanese television. Just letting you know.

Oh, one more type of show I see a lot. Movie preview shows that summarize the ENTIRE MOVIE. I guess this is for Chinese to know the whole story before they watch it, just so there are no surprises. The hero dies at the end? Well, I’m not watching that. Or maybe it’s a way for people to catch the pivotal scenes from a movie without wasting 90 long minutes. Maybe there are a lot of people who always wanted to see the Back to the Future trilogy but only have 30 minutes to spare.

There you go, Chinese TV is worse than American TV so stop complaining.
